Loud, grating noise is unpleasant for anyone and if the noise is constant for a period of time a headache will usually follow. But is noise worse for Meniere ’s disease sufferers?
We had a fire drill at work today and the sound was blaring and very loud, which it should be if there is a fire in the building. In this case they were just testing the alarm and we didn’t go outside. Which meant that we had to sit and listen to the alarm for what seemed like eternity, even with fingers in my ears the noise was extremely annoying.
In the past few years since I have had meniere’s, loud noise especially loud quick unexpected noises have triggered an attack. I don’t know why but it has and it also causes a temporary case of tinnitus, which lasts for a short period of time.
I haven’t read that this is much of a problem for most Meniere’s disease sufferers. Usually the problem is lack of hearing or the dreadful tinnitus.

Hi David! I'm having a total hysterectomy on Wednesday.
We had a fire drill as well this past Wednesday. Someone pulled the alarm.
I've had some ringing in my ears for years but had an attack in June and the ringing has never stopped. I will have to read your blog. This is very interesting.
Hi David.
Yes, now noises are terrible. I have always hated fire drills. Over the years I always try to find out when one is taking place and find a way not to be in the office at that time.
I have tinnitus 24/7. Up until 4 weeks ago it was a dull roar that I could handle. With recent attacks, it's loud and changing depending on the filling or draining (full feeling or normal). I'm trying a few things now for the attacks (Aclyvir) and in a few months, I'm going to look into a hearing aid. I've also heard from the ent that there are some drugs that can improve tinnitus. We shall see. I'll take the hearing loss (mine is now almost complete) but I can't take the ringing.
Take care,
Ed
Hi Ed,
I hope that your doctor can find something that can help with the tinnitus. I would probably take the hearing loss over the ringing too.
David
HI David,
Thanks for commenting on my blog. Good luck with everything with Meniere's. What supplements do you take by the way?
Right now I take t-bio, I think that it has helped but I can't say for sure.
Spoke with my doctor today and having my surgery as planned. No problems. Talk to you in a few days.
